History
During the summer of 2001, Terry had a simple idea: take a trip to the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see the Indy 500. So he sent in his money and waited to see if was able to get tickets. The following spring he and Holly made what would become an annual pilgrimage to Indianapolis, Indiana. What started as a trip with two people in 2002 grew to four people in 2003. By 2004, the group grew to about 10 people and was on its way to becoming more than just a gathering of friends but a long weekend of concerts, racing, and camping.
Through the years we have added fan favorite activities such as Indy Idol where contestants try their best to wow the judges along with the famous Saturday night stock market where participants purchase “shares” of their favorite drivers in hope that they win the big race. This year 28 people will make the journey to Indianapolis in order to participate in the festivities and witness “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”.

Timeline of Significant Events in PAIN Tour History
- 2023 – The PAIN Tour brought it's second largest group to IMS with 38 members making the trek. They officially recognized and incorporated Frank the Founder into their Lot 2 traditions. New this year was the inclusion of Birdies Backyard Bash on Saturday afternoon. Pulled Pork, Bloody Mary's and good times were had by all. With the completion of PTHQN in Center County PA this Spring, the PAIN tour acquired 2 shovels full of Lot 2 grass to be planted back in PA, ensuring part of IN will be on the property. For the Foyt faithful in the group the race brought about a podium finish for Santino Ferrucci, Foyt's best finish since 2000. The PAIN Tour celebrated with champagne at their campsite after the race!
- 2022 – The PAIN Tour celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a new, 3 section back bar and included storage for the Magnificent 7 mugs, a second tv so previous Indy 500s could be watched during the weekend and a shelf that pays homage to the retirement of the World’s Greatest Beer – Hamm’s Special Light. On Thursday of the weekend, we celebrated the exact hour, minute and second of the 20th anniversary of “The Pass” which put Paul Tracy in the lead to win the 2002 Indy 500. The PAIN Tour was featured in a NBC Sports video for coverage of the race played on national television as well as in the stands. For the first time in PAIN Tour history, we waited until after the crowed had left to take down the main tent and ate Sunday night dinner in Lot 2.
- 2021 - New and enlarged bar is built. The previous bar was converted into a back bar for storage. The PAIN Tour memorial was erected and placed in the hollowed grounds of Lot 2. For the first time ever, a separate cook tent was used. It was destroyed by a windstorm but the Executive Committee promises that another will be purchased for future use.
- 2020 - Seven PAIN Tour members attended the Indy 500 by partying all weekend at Bird's House even though the race was not open to the public. These seven people from that point forward were referred to as the Magnificent Seven. The Magnificent Seven are Terry Trego, Holly Trego, Tim Trego, Doug Dandridge, The Kurt, T-Fox, and Jay Daniel. The large tree in Lot 2 that was the center piece of the PAIN Tour camp was removed and it is believed that the time capsule was removed with it. PTHQN was constructed in Centre County, PA as a new storage location for the ever-growing PAIN Tour paraphernalia collection was needed.
- 2019 - The large tree was DOA of the PAIN Tour.
- 2018 - The large tree appeared to be dying. The Fast Cars, Fast Girls, recognized as the premier IndyCar Podcasters, visit the PAIN Tour campsite for the first time. The song “Drive my Car” by the Beatles was played as they entered the PAIN Tour campsite. This song was the intro song to their podcast at the time.
- 2017 - PAIN Tour entered a new era with a large 20 X 40 tent, no longer needing a gutter system. This tent would have several new grommets added throughout the years. Believed to be the when the PAIN Tour added a second generator to its PPL (PAIN Power and Light) collection.
- 2016- 100th Running of the Indy 500 - PAIN Tour installed a snow fence for the first time to keep morons out of the campsite while simultaneously keeping our morons in the campsite. This was the final year for the three ten by twenty tents with a gutter system. In addition, a 4th ten by twenty tent was brought along due to the expected high amount of rain. That 4th tent would be placed in storage and not used until 2021 when it met its demise. The PAIN Tour buries a time capsule near the tree to be dug up on the 150 Indy 500. The Lot 2 Legend Award is created to recognize the contributions of those who provide great assistance to the PAIN Tour. It is the only PAIN Tour award not related to attending the Indy 500. Doug Dandridge is named the first Lot 2 Legend.
- 2014 – The PAIN Tour formally holds its first whiffle ball game with Chugger Baker being awarded the title of MVP. In addition, it is the first time the PAIN Tour holds its annual “Trivia” contest during the weekend. The team of The Kurt Trumbauer and Casey Douglas win this inaugural competition.
- 2011 – The first time in PAIN Tour history a former ROY is awarded VOY.
- 2010 – The PAIN Tour Executive Committee is formed. Members of the Committee are the Director, Assistant Director and the Advance Team Coordinator.
- 2009 - Believed to be the year that the Advance Team was created. PAIN Tour Tim was designated as the Advance Team Coordinator. Chad Weaver is crowned Indy Idol Champion as the PAIN Tour holds its first official karaoke competition.
- 2008 - Believed to be the only year from 2005 to the present that the PAIN Tour did not camp in its current location.
- 2006 – The first year that the PAIN Tour formally recognizes the work of Veterans and Rookies by awarding Veteran of the Year (VOY) and Rookie of the Year (ROY) titles.
- 2005 - The first year the PAIN Tour camps in its current location in Lot 2. Only one year after 2005 did the PAIN Tour camp in a different location due to the spot already being taken. This unfortunate event led to the creation of the Advance Team.
- 2004 - Approximately 12 people make the trip with the PAIN Tour and a single seven by seven canopy tent was used for dining coverage.
- 2003 - Terry and Holly bring along two other people and the PAIN Tour leadership team is unofficially created as Terry is selected as the Director and Holly became the Assistant Director
- 2002 - Terry and Holly attend the 86th running of the Indianapolis 500 race, known as the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing". They camp in Lot 2, very close to the current PAIN Tour camping location. Paul Tracy wins the race and the PAIN Tour is born.
- 2001, August - Terry and Holly apply for tickets for the 2002 Indy 500
